I also believe it makes a huge difference when those men who are involved in caregiving or serving their communities notice the efforts of boys to get involved, too. For example, my kids recently volunteered for a whole Saturday to help run baseball tryouts for younger kids. At the end, a male coach whom they admire greatly took the time to thank them and talk with them about how important and rewarding it is to help others. My kids' dad is not involved in this way, and so it made a huge impression on them to have another male role model praise their efforts.
